Pair of Lances
A pair of riders run two abreast past two pegs inground. Each rider draws its own peg with the lance. The pair halt at the other end and then walk across to the next track. Once the judge signals the all clear the riders again run two abreast past two pegs inground. Each rider draws its own peg with the lance. Points are given for the pegs as well as for drill – see below.

Rings and Peg
A ring measuring 6cm inside is suspended from a gallow with suspender strap 2.2m from the ground. Two gallows are placed 15m apart with a peg 20m beyond the 2nd gallow, in a straight line. Using a lance and at the gallop, the rider must bring the lance to a position above the arm engage both rings and the peg.
Lemons and Peg
A lemon is suspended from a gallow with a suspender strap, 2.2m from the ground. Two gallows are placed 15 m apart. Using the sword and at the gallop, at the first lemon the rider will do one horizontal cut from right to left, cutting the lemon, at the second lemon the rider will do one horizontal cut from left to right cutting the lemon, then 20m after the second gallow engage the peg with the sword.
Skill at Arms
“Skill at Arms” consists of thee parts, testing both the rider and horse. A pistol, lance and sword are all used. This event is to be done at a gallop the time allowed is 50 seconds, but this can change depending on the course.
An Elimination can occur if you have a refusal at the second jump, pistol bucket knocked over, riding an incorrect course (eg; going the wrong size of an obstacle) and if the judges finds you are to dangerous to continue.
1st Leg- In the first leg, two jumps of a height of 70cm and a width of 2.5 are placed 20m apart. A balloon 1.5m high is on the right side of the first jump and another is on the left side of the second jump, a third balloon holder is on the right, 20m beyond the second jump and is 50cm high. A bucket is placed at the end of the 1st leg approximately 1.2m above the ground level. The rider starts the event with a cap pistol jumps the jumps and with one shot (jab) per balloon bursting the balloons, then paces the pistol in the bucket.
2nd Leg- There is an “Effigy Head” on a stand 2m high with a 10cm neck made of 1.5cm dowel. There are two stands and they are to be 15m apart with the second stand 1.5m to the left of the first. 20m beyond the second “Effigy Heads” is a dummy that is suspended, which swivels away from the rider on impact. The heart of the dummy is to b e 8cm in diameter and 1.6m (5ft) above the ground. The rider draws the sword, the first “Effigy Head’ will be on the riders right, first cut will be in a forward sweep, from right to left keeping the sword horizontal. Second “Effigy Head” will be on the riders left, second cut will be in a forward sweep, from left to right keeping the sword horizontal. The rider then with a straight arm will engage the heart of the dummy leaving the sword in the dummy.
3rd Leg- Set up as in Rings & Peg, The rider with the lance above the arm engages both rings and the peg.
Scoring
“Carry” 6 points – A six is scored when you carry your peg at least 20m
“Draw” 4 points – A four is scored when the pegs is drawn out of the grown but not carried the 20m.
“Strike” 2 points – A two is scored when the peg is not drawn from the ground but there is a weapon strike to the peg.
